Job Summary
Expanded Duty Dental Assistant provides chair-side support and performs semi-technical dental and routine clerical tasks in a community health center. Responsibilities include assisting the dentist during examinations and treatments, taking radiographs, sterilizing instruments, preparing and arranging instruments, recording patient vitals (pulse, blood pressure, temperature), documenting care, following the plan of care, maintaining infection control and equipment, and participating in education and group instruction on oral health. Requires high school diploma and graduation from an approved dental assistant program, with Louisiana certification as Expanded Duty Dental Assistant; six months of dental office experience (or completed training), and CPR certification preferred. The role interfaces with the dentist, receptionist, and patients, and supports quality improvement, safety adherence, and departmental procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate and graduate of a state approved Dental Assistant School
- Current license as a Certified Expanded Duty Dental Assistant in the State of Louisiana
- Six months experience in a dentist's office or completion of a training course in dental assistance
- CPR certification by the American Board for Dental Assisting preferred and/or striving to be certified
