Job Summary
Exemptions Supervisor (Property Exemptions Administration) leads processing teams in administering NYC property tax exemption/abatement programs (e.g., SCHE, DHE, Veterans Exemption, Veterans Homeowners Exemptions, and Co-op/Condominium Property Tax Abatement). Responsibilities include applying knowledge of property tax classifications, building classes, and valuation principles to determine eligibility; performing specialized benefit actions; managing workflow for timely processing and high-quality decisions; assisting with staff training and developing training guides; conducting QA reviews and implementing improvements for compliance; collaborating with supervisors, customer service, and senior management; generating and interpreting processing data and reports; coordinating with IT teams on tools like PTS, SmartFile, and CRM; engaging with stakeholders (including cooperative and condominium managing agents) to facilitate proper benefit applications and reporting; drafting taxpayer communications and notices; leading or supporting special projects; and monitoring staff performance and disciplinary matters. This role may offer remote work up to 2 days per week under the Remote Work Pilot Program.
Required Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college
- four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience requiring independent decision-making concerning program management or planning, allocation for resources and the scheduling and assignment of work, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity
- OR an associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in 1 above, 18 months in supervisory capacity
- OR a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in 1 above, 18 months in supervisory capacity
- Education and/or experience equivalent to 1-3 above with the 18 months of supervisory experience as described in 1-3 above
