Job Summary

Prepare IRS submissions including exemption applications, determination requests, and private letter ruling requests. Draft corporate governance documents such as bylaws, board resolutions, and operational policies. Review grant files and agreements, conduct legal research, and draft memorandums and tax opinions. Assist clients with IRS audits, appeals, and controversies while advising on strategic decisions and operational planning. Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and maintain substantial client contact. Join a nationally-recognized exempt organizations practice advising diverse nonprofit organizations, including charities, foundations, advocacy groups, and international NGOs.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • experience with the IRS rules applicable to tax-exempt organizations
  • familiarity with corporate governance requirements for nonprofit corporations
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • attention to detail
  • sound judgment
  • strong academic credentials
  • the ability to work as a team player

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in preparing or reviewing applications for tax-exemption
  • advising on issues related to domestic and international grantmaking
  • navigating rules on lobbying and political campaign intervention
