Job Summary
Executive Vice President and designated successor to the President & CEO of the American Sportfishing Association (ASA). Reporting to the current President & CEO, you will lead a team of four Vice Presidents and a staff of 22, oversee an operating budget of $8 million, and support a leadership transition. You will engage with manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, media, conservation partners, and adjacent outdoor businesses to align ASA’s advocacy platforms, communications, industry data, events, and other resources to deliver revenue-generating value for members and the broader sportfishing community. As you transition to the President & CEO role, you will serve as the association’s primary spokesperson and represent the industry nationally, while supporting the government affairs function and maintaining bipartisan relationships with policymakers. Key focus areas include Board Governance, Government Affairs & External Representation, Industry Relations & Member Engagement, Revenue Diversification & Business Model Innovation, Staff Leadership & Operations, and Strategic Communications & Marketing. The role requires significant travel nationwide with a hybrid work environment at the Alexandria, VA headquarters. The base salary range is $225K-$275K with bonus potential and a comprehensive benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of executive leadership experience
- preferably in outdoors industry or a trade association
- successful oversight of membership growth and/or business development
- strong communication, negotiation, and public speaking skills
- ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and communicate with diverse audiences
- experience working with a board of directors
- comfort engaging with high-level government and business leaders
- working understanding of public policy, government relations, and advocacy; familiarity with fisheries management, conservation, and public lands
