Job Summary
Represent the Texas Credit Union Association as its public face by managing relationships with state legislators, members of Congress, and federal agencies. Draft legislative initiatives, analyze regulatory issues, and develop strategies to affect legislation benefiting credit unions. Oversee contract lobbyists, manage the Texas Grassroots & PAC Director, and implement messaging strategies for state political campaigns. Monitor the association budget, provide content for communications platforms, and attend advocacy meetings as assigned. This role supports the Cornerstone Credit Union League's five-state professional organization by promoting member credit union involvement in legislative efforts and ensuring annual goals are achieved.
Required Qualifications
- A four-year bachelor's degree program in Finance, Government, or Political Science or related experience
- Work requires command of the legislative process in Texas
- detailed knowledge of state and Federal politics
- general knowledge of the Credit Union movement on the state and national level
- At least five years of involvement in the legislative process
- five years of supervisory experience
- Prefer recent staff-level experience in the Texas Legislature
- Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills essential for projecting a positive image as a representative of Texas Credit Union Association who interacts with Board members, Credit Union CEOs, lobbyists, and lawmakers
- Strong writing and speaking skills
- Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
- Able to deal with very difficult concepts and complex variables
- Ability to use basic math skills
- Ability to read technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to prepare articles, abstracts, editorials, journals, manuals, and critiques
- Ability to prepare and make comprehensive presentations
- participate in formal debate
- communicate professionally before an audience
- Work requires an equal amount of sitting and walking/standing
- occasional lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 35 pounds when transporting boxes of supplies, retrieving files and moving furniture
- These activities also require occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, reaching, and kneeling
