Executive Director of Advancement

Job Summary

Identify, cultivate, and solicit a portfolio of major gift prospects, personally closing gifts of $1M+ while developing strategies for the gift pyramid. Manage daily activities for alumni relations and annual giving programs, including directing a team of Directors and overseeing an alumni leadership council. Design fundraising infrastructure and major campaign plans, such as the School's 100th Anniversary initiative, by collaborating with the Dean, Chief Advancement Officer, and faculty to set priorities. Assess fundraising programs and events, draft major gift proposals and donor materials, and prepare briefing documents to track progress toward goals. Develop and manage fiscal year operating and event budgets while analyzing data to identify trends and recommend adjustments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7 years experience
  • 5 years management experience
  • Major campaign, fundraising, public relations, and/or volunteer management experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Weekend and evening work expected

Desired Qualifications

  • Experienced senior fundraising professional with 10 years or more experience
  • Demonstrated track record of personally closing gifts of $1M+
  • Expertise in major campaign fundraising within the entertainment industry
  • Preferably at a complex research university
  • Successful experience in conceptualizing a comprehensive strategy for institutional advancement
  • Experience as a member of and/or an understanding of the School of Cinematic Arts Alumni Community
  • Solid relationship-building skills, ability to interface with donors, leading faculty, administrators, board members, trustees, and cross-campus partners
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and fundraising proposal writing/editing
  • Experience in managing Alumni Relations and Annual Giving programs and events
  • Oversight and management of a volunteer board or council
  • Strategic, creative thinking to maximize the growth of the School's donor base
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt, manage and implement change; and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment
  • Enjoys engaging with donors in their philanthropic pursuits
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Skill in managing databases as well as prospect contact documentation and portfolios
  • Master's degree
  • Master's degree in business administration or a related field
  • Development experience in higher education
  • Experience in management/leadership roles
  • Volunteer experience in fundraising, campaign or non-profit environments
  • Experience with email marketing, website development/coding and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Extensive customer service experience
  • Fluent in one or more language in addition to English
