Job Summary
Executive Director, Laboratory Services, North Division leads strategic and operational governance of the division's laboratory services across Western WA and Alaska, providing administrative leadership for multiple laboratories, integrating acute and ambulatory operations, and driving performance improvement in collaboration with System Lab leadership. Responsible for strategic, financial, and operational management, governance models, and alignment with system strategies; oversees quality, regulatory, billing, and physician relationships; develops long-range business plans, ensures cost efficiency, and coordinates IT and shared services initiatives. Requires 10+ years of senior lab leadership, multi-site oversight, and a proven track record in P&L, quality, compliance, and change management. Must be able to navigate regulatory and political environments and to lead in a matrixed healthcare setting. Role is onsite four days a week in Renton, WA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science (preferably Laboratory Science or related field)
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Health Administration, or related field (preferred)
- 10 or more years of experience as a proven leader (P&L accountability) within a fast-paced, complex, and matrixed environment such as a large integrated health system or a commercial laboratory, with generalist laboratory oversight (all departments)
- 3 years of experience at a multi-campus or multi-laboratory location with full oversight
- 3 years of experience working in changing environments where flexibility and comfort with ambiguity have produced significant results
- 3 years of experience in Quality, Regulatory, and Compliance areas (preferred)
- Demonstrated success working in an organization with strong regulatory oversight
- Demonstrated ability to make data-driven, high-impact decisions
- Demonstrated ability to navigate political, regulatory, and economic challenges
- Systems thinker with long-term planning experience
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement new service delivery models
- Proven and exceptionally strong business and financial management and budget development skills
- Demonstrated leadership ability, communication, and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with physicians, management, staff, external agencies/customers, and community members
- Demonstrates courage and confidence to lead and inspire an organization through change and periodic uncertainty
- Results-oriented, data-driven, with a focus on action and outcomes and an ability to gain consensus where appropriate
- Ability to work under pressure, remain flexible with competing priorities, and execute effectively
