Job Summary
Executive Director of Facilities Engineering and Maintenance provides leadership and operational oversight for facilities management across the MUHA Charleston Region, including the Charleston campus hospital, ambulatory surgical facilities, free-standing EDs, Nexton Hospital campus, Orangeburg Regional Medical Center and related facilities exceeding 5.1M sq ft with 100+ direct staff and annual operating budgets exceeding $63M. Leads comprehensive Facilities Operations and Maintenance programs to ensure life safety, fire safety, physical environment compliance, and regulatory adherence; collaborates with MUHA leadership to optimize performance, budgeting, staffing, training, and external contracted support; manages capital infrastructure renewal projects over $15M annually; ensures 24/7/365 operational readiness and preparedness for adverse events; builds cross-functional relationships with MUHA leadership and departments; directs staffing, training, performance management, and workforce development; ensures documentation, risk mitigation, and outages communications in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards; positions MUHA facilities operations for institutional growth across MUSC enterprise. Minimum Training and Education: Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities, Construction Management or Engineering Technology and minimum of 10 years’ related work experience, with at least 7 years in a supervisory capacity; will consider candidates without a Master's but must be completed within 2 years of hire; broad knowledge of HVAC, mechanical and electrical repair and systems, utilities, and total building systems in healthcare or higher education environments.
