Job Summary
Provide direct supervision and individualized support to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the school day. Assist classroom teachers with instructional activities by offering one-on-one and small-group support, reinforcing lesson plans, and adapting materials to encourage active participation. Implement strategies from Individualized Education Programs and Behavior Intervention Plans using positive behavior supports and de-escalation techniques. Monitor student health, behavior, and emotional well-being while documenting attendance, observations, incidents, and medication administration in accordance with agency policies. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, nurses, and families to deliver consistent, person-centered educational services.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- CPR certification
- First Aid certification
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
- Ability to safely assist students with educational activities, personal care needs, mobility support, and emergencies
- Ability to reach and grasp
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, push, pull, twist, lift, carry, and reposition
- Ability to move throughout classrooms, therapy areas, playgrounds, vocational areas, and other educational settings
- Ability to support students with personal care, self-help skills, activities of daily living, mobility, positioning, transfers, and the use of adaptive equipment
- Ability to respond appropriately to behavioral, medical, and safety-related situations
- Ability to participate in emergency procedures, first aid response, and approved Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques
- Ability to maintain awareness of student safety at all times
- Ability to provide hands-on assistance when necessary to support student health, safety, learning, and participation
