Job Summary

Deliver high-quality, standards-based instruction for elementary students with autism, creating a supportive environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth. Manage student behavior to minimize disruption, establish positive relationships, and refer students to administration for disciplinary action as necessary. Coordinate teacher assistants, supervise cafeteria and playground duties, and oversee extracurricular activities. Prepare daily lesson plans, complete required reports, and respond to parent inquiries in a timely manner. Participate in staff meetings, including those for students with special needs, and maintain detailed absence plans. Work for Moore County Schools in a light physical role requiring occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds.

  • Must be able to safely work in situations of exposure to bloodborne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Must be able to establish positive relationships with students
  • Must be able to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
  • Must be able to perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations
  • Must be able to work with both children and adults with disabilities
  • Must be able to talk, i.e., express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words
  • Must be able to hear, i.e., perceive nature of sounds by ear
