Job Summary
Assist exceptional-children (EC) students under supervision, supporting the assigned teacher and guiding students toward IEP goals. Responsibilities include supervising in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and on transportation; enforcing school policies; preparing lesson materials and displays; collecting data to document progress toward IEP goals; assisting with checking materials, portfolios, attendance, and testing; providing physical assistance to students as needed; aiding therapists and teachers with related duties; and participating in professional development. Requires knowledge of EC regulations, ability to use current technology and communication tools, classroom management, differentiation techniques, and effective communication.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent (e.g., 48 credit hours)
- Two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credits OR completion of NC Department of Labor Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program
- Ability to pass formal assessment (WorkKeys and 96 hours of in-service training)
- One year working with EC children preferred
