Job Summary
Provide direct nursing care and medically necessary support to students with disabilities or chronic health conditions, including administering medications, managing insulin pumps, performing G-tube feedings, and assisting with personal care needs like toileting and mobility. Monitor and respond to medical emergencies such as seizures or respiratory crises while maintaining infection control and confidentiality. Serve students in one-on-one settings or across multiple schools, collaborating with families and IEP teams to ensure safe educational access. Maintain accurate health documentation and participate in school-based planning meetings as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Active North Carolina Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Current negative TB screening/result
- Knowledge of pediatric, school health, and special education practices
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to frequently bend, crouch, kneel, push, pull, and lift up to 60 pounds
- Ability to safely assist students with mobility, positioning, transfers, toileting, changing, feeding, and personal care needs as required
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
- Seizure disorder monitoring and intervention
- Diastat administration
- Diabetes management, insulin injections, and insulin pump monitoring
- Medication administration
- G-tube feedings and care
- Tracheostomy care and suctioning
- Catheterization procedures, if applicable
- Emergency response and crisis intervention
- Infection control and universal precautions
- Documentation and confidentiality requirements related to student health records and IEP implementation
- Ability to travel between schools/sites within the district as assigned

- Experience working with children and/or medically fragile students preferred
