Job Summary
Operate a backhoe with a hydraulic shovel to dig trenches and holes, remove earth and gravel, and transport materials to piles or trucks. Control hand and foot levers to move equipment, perform routine maintenance including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning, and participate in on-the-job training. Maintain safety habits while judging distances and slopes accurately in dusty or dirty surroundings. Requires high school diploma, proper certification, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Granite Construction Incorporated specializes in complex infrastructure projects including highways, bridges, and mining earthwork.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- Proper certification
- Appropriate training and experience
- Must be able to stoop, bend, and crouch
- Must be able to use hands, arms, and legs fully
- Must see well (either naturally or with correction)
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to perform frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to move hand and foot levers to control hydraulic shovel
- Must be able to use shovel to dig trenches and holes of specified length, depth and width
- Must be able to remove loosened material and put in piles or transport trucks
- Must be able to perform routine maintenance on equipment, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning
- Must be able to practice good safety habits
- Must be able to work in dusty or dirty surroundings
- Must be able to follow instructions and meet set standards
- Must be able to judge distances and slopes accurately
- Must be able to make decisions based on verifiable standards
