Job Summary
Operate excavators up to 45T to perform trenching, backfilling, and general excavation; install and expose underground utilities safely (water, sewer, storm); work around live utilities with proper clearances and spotting procedures; follow grade stakes, plans, and direction from supervision/grade personnel; load trucks, handle materials, and assist with site prep as required; conduct daily pre-use inspections and basic machine maintenance; maintain situational awareness and safe working distances from other equipment; communicate clearly with ground crew, spotters, and supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years excavator experience in civil or underground work
- Experience digging around utilities (hydro, gas, water/sewer)
- Experience with machines up to 45T
- Ability to read grade stakes and construction drawings
- Strong knowledge of safe excavation practices and hazard awareness
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Safety tickets (CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid, Ground Disturbance) considered an asset
- Strong awareness of site safety and hazard recognition
- Follow directions that are spoken or given by hand signals
- Proven ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to lift and work with materials weighing up to 25kg
- Able to sit for long period of time in cramped spaces
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and environments
- Must have a strong understanding of industrial safety procedures and policies
- Must be fluent in English, both written and verbal
- Candidates may be required to complete a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol screen and/or criminal record check
