Job Summary
Event Cook I at HTM supports culinary events from donor dinners to volunteer kitchen sessions, executing scratch-prepared sauces, stocks, and dishes per established recipes while maintaining sanitation and organization. You will plate food for buffet, family, and individual service with urgency and finesse, monitor quality, assist with inventory and equipment upkeep, and collaborate with the Event Chef de Cuisine, Sous Chef, and volunteers. The role includes working in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment, training or guiding less experienced cooks and volunteers (Event Cook II in a lead capacity), and ensuring food safety and compliance. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED (culinary degree preferred), 4+ years of culinary experience (3+ years as a line cook), valid food handler certification (or obtain within 30 days), legal authorization to work in the United States, and availability for weekends/holidays; physical ability to stand for long periods and to lift up to 50 lbs. The position is full-time with shifts that include weekends and holidays, in North Hills, CA.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Culinary degree preferred
- Minimum 4 years of culinary experience, including at least 3 years of line cook experience in a professional kitchen; high-volume or event environment preferred
- Valid food handler certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and variable event hours as required
- Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time
- Must be able to carry, lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to regularly bend and stoop
