Event Operations Specialist, Temporary

Job Summary

Move, stage, and strike event equipment including tables, chairs, tents, and signage throughout the Garden. Set up and break down spaces according to established layouts, perform room flips, and clean event areas before, during, and after public and private programs. Transport materials across the property, load and unload assets, and maintain organized storage spaces. Monitor designated areas to ensure operational standards are followed, identify safety hazards, and report maintenance or policy concerns to leadership. Assist with exhibit installations, utility vehicle operation, and special projects like film shoots while working in varying weather conditions.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid California driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, move, push, and pull heavy equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to learn, understand, and consistently follow Garden operational policies, safety procedures, and event standards
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed
  • Valid California driver's license (or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and an acceptable driving record that meets the Garden's insurance requirements
  • Ability to become knowledgeable about Garden operations and apply established policies while working independently in assigned areas
  • Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor throughout an entire shift
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier items with team assistance or appropriate equipment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods
  • Ability to safely operate carts, utility vehicles, dollies, pallet jacks, and other operational equipment following training
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain, hills, pathways, gardens, and work areas throughout the property
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, humidity, and direct sunlight

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in event operations, facilities, logistics, hospitality, parks, recreation, or related fields
  • Experience with event setups and strikes
  • Experience operating utility vehicles, carts, or related equipment
  • Experience working in outdoor environments
