Evening Recreation Program Assistant

Job Summary
Deliver and help develop recreational, athletic, fitness, or sports activities while ensuring programs are conducted safely with proper equipment security. Lead groups and individuals in leisure activities, instruct users on fitness equipment use, and provide emergency or first aid assistance when required. Assist in supervising student youth and recreation workers during the summer employment program and support program duties including advertising, registration, and monitoring. Provide lifestyle awareness information and maintain effective working relationships with Band members, co-workers, and outside agencies. Work four days a week on a flexible evening schedule from Monday to Friday.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of secondary school with a college certificate in recreation or physical education and/or an equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, and experience.
- Sound knowledge of recreational and fitness programming, use of sports and fitness equipment, and the rules and coaching of various team and individual sports.
- Knowledge and experience of similar program delivery in the context of Musqueam or First Nations culture and history.
- Strong administrative and computer skills (i.e. Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, etc.).
- Valid First Aid & CPR.
- Must be team oriented, with the ability to work with other members of the team and engage with the community.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to work well with all age groups.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to drive and have access to licensed vehicle for work purposes.
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful Criminal Records Check.
- Must be available to work evenings, Monday to Friday.
