Job Summary
Evening Cook in a skilled nursing facility environment responsible for preparing and delivering meals for residents according to planned menus and dietary guidelines. Works with the dietary team to accommodate special dietary needs (e.g., low sodium, diabetic, gluten-free) while maintaining kitchen cleanliness and safety. Tasks include following standardized recipes and portion control, adjusting recipes to meet residents’ nutritional requirements, managing inventory, coordinating with dietary staff to review menus, keeping records of food temperatures and dietary modifications, and participating in ongoing food safety training to stay current with standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary certification or degree in a relevant field preferred
- Proven experience as a cook, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting
- Experience with special diets and dietary restrictions is a plus
- Physical ability to lift/move, stand for extended periods
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to follow recipes and dietary guidelines accurately
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work with residents and dietary staff to meet nutritional needs
