Job Summary

The role requires delivering instruction in Adaptive Physical Education aligned with national and state standards, collaborating with various educational staff, and developing individualized education plans for students with disabilities. Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree with specific coursework and a valid Massachusetts PK–8 Physical Education Certification. Strong experience in delivering physical education to students with disabilities and best practices in Adaptive Physical Education is essential. Preferred qualifications include National CAPE certification and expertise in using structured instructional approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with appropriate coursework in Physical Education and Adaptive Physical Education
  • Valid Massachusetts PK–8 Physical Education Certification (required)
  • Strong ability to deliver physical education and/or special education services to students with disabilities
  • Ability to create, implement, and evaluate individualized education plans in alignment with district and departmental guidelines
  • Commitment to the successful implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Ability to mentor and guide instructional aides supporting students in physical education

Desired Qualifications

  • National CAPE certification through the Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS) organization (strongly preferred)
  • Successful teaching experience and/or training in Adaptive Physical Education
  • Expertise in explicit instruction related to motor skill development and social-emotional learning
  • Experience developing specialized equipment and setting appropriate goals and objectives to improve students’ motor skills
  • Skill in using structured, multisensory, and systematic approaches to instruction
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with general educators, physical educators, special educators, and service providers
  • Experience administering and interpreting both formal and informal assessments to guide instruction and IEP goal setting
  • Proficiency in modifying instruction to accommodate students' needs and supporting general education teachers in implementing accommodations
  • Organizational skills to manage reporting, data collection, inventory, purchasing, and other assigned responsibilities
