Job Summary
Estonian Translator for DOJ Linguistic Support Services to translate, interpret, and transcribe legal and government materials across a range of formats and terminologies. Responsibilities include handling sensitive materials, maintaining confidentiality, and employing CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio) to ensure accurate, register-appropriate translations across legal, medical, financial, and technical content. Requires at least two years of translation experience, ILR 3 on language tests, U.S. citizenship, and a Public Trust or higher clearance; remote work options available with potential travel; position supports National Capital Region and CONUS locations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of translation experience
- ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Proficient in English and the foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to Government’s varied missions
- Write fluently in native language with professional command
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by linguist ethics
- Proficient in CAT tools with SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
