Job Summary
Review project plans, specifications, and documentation to develop accurate cost estimates for commercial HVAC projects, including new construction, tenant improvements, and retrofits. Perform quantity take-offs for systems such as ductwork, piping, equipment, and controls. Prepare detailed labor, material, and equipment cost estimates while soliciting and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes. Identify scope gaps, risks, and value engineering opportunities to assist project managers with budgets, bids, and proposals. Maintain cost databases, historical pricing, and bid templates. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions to ensure alignment between estimates and project execution. Stay current with industry trends, codes, and technology related to commercial HVAC.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in estimating HVAC systems for commercial projects
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment, and installation practices
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
- Proficient in estimating software, Excel, and construction management tools
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with design-build and negotiated work delivery methods
- Familiarity with BIM/VDC coordination and its impact on estimating
Desired Qualifications
- Experience mentoring junior estimators or leading estimating teams
