Job Summary
Estimation-focused role for a General Contractor in Richmond, BC. Key responsibilities include developing discipline and multi-discipline material and quantity takeoffs, evaluating construction rates and subcontract cost estimates, conducting productivity analyses of cost estimates, reviewing designs for cost-effectiveness and proposing alternatives, sourcing prices from suppliers and subcontractors, providing sub-trades with drawings/data, fielding construction-related questions, assisting with preliminary high-level schedules, and collaborating with Operations and Development to define scopes and prepare project documentation. Requires post-secondary education in related fields, 3+ years in construction estimating, proficiency with Timberline/MS Project/Insite, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to manage data and lead by example.
Required Qualifications
- Post secondary education in engineering, construction estimating, building technology, quantity surveying, or related courses
- Minimum 3 years of experience in construction and cost estimating
- Experience completing multi-discipline takeoffs and estimates for a construction company
- Preference for General Contractor experience
- Understanding of building construction from concept to completion
- Understanding of construction worksite sequencing is an asset
- Ability to document and organize complex streams of information
- Ability to clearly communicate estimating concepts
- Strong organizational and communication skills (written, oral, interpersonal)
- Ability to lead by example and maintain professionalism
- Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office, Timberline, MS Project, Insite) and on-screen takeoffs
- High attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving, organization, task management, and planning skills
