Job Summary
Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, and client documentation to prepare accurate structural steel estimates and change order pricing. Collaborate with fabrication, purchasing, field erection, and pre-construction teams to determine build methods, material take-offs, and labor costs. Enter estimates and takeoffs into in-house software while adhering to Schuff estimating guidelines and procedures. Work directly with Sales and Pre-construction to understand project scope, timelines, and deadlines. Prepare detailed bids including shop labor, equipment, and crane costs, then summarize results with appropriate leaders. Requires five years of progressively responsible estimating experience and familiarity with structural drawing or drafting.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with structural drawing or drafting course work
- Five years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural steel construction projects
- Customary construction terminology
- Knowledge estimating software packages
- Basic understanding of detailing procedures and building structures
- Basic understanding of modeling concepts
- Great attention to detail
- Excellent written communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Vocation or other secondary education program
- Prior experience in detailing and drafting
