Estimator - Mechanical/Piping

Job Summary
Lead and support estimating processes from start to finish for Construction, EPC, and Bid build projects, including developing project estimates and proposals. Perform detailed reviews with vendors to ensure pricing compliance, assist in soliciting subcontract proposals, and generate quantity-based estimates from partial information such as plot plans, P&ID, and equipment lists. Develop Work Breakdown Structures to meet company and client standards, identify assumptions and risks, and present contingencies while ensuring estimates are traceable to defining documents. Monitor project scope for trade coordination and facilitate team understanding of the estimate during the Proposal and Project Life Cycle. This role requires a thorough knowledge of industrial projects including refineries, terminals, and power plants. Full-time position in Houston, TX with occasional travel and extended workdays. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction, or Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education/experience in lieu of degree
- 4 years of field and/or office experience including experience as an Estimator, Project Controls, Superintendent, General Foreman or a Field Engineer involved with estimating or cost monitoring
- Familiar with construction work and terminology
- Must have a strong attention to detail
- Ability to quickly visualize the finished product from the drawings and other documents provided
- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects and capable of working independently
- Good mathematical comprehension
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to make clear and concise presentations to management
- Strong understanding of the operating process at the facilities being estimated such as refineries, terminals, power plants, mining or other industrial facilities
- Solid technical skills with an understanding of the various classifications of estimates
- Self-motivated enthusiastic team player willing to work/mentor with others and adopt new ideas and methods
- Good computer skills including an operating knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with Sage estimating, project scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera) and databases
- This position may require occasional travel and extended workdays
