Job Summary
Determine construction project costs, including large on-site changes in Columbia, SC, or Charlotte, NC. Collaborate with the preconstruction team to define project scope, interpret plans, and identify discrepancies. Design and maintain cost estimating and subcontractor/supplier databases while soliciting bids and negotiating contract revisions with general contractors, architects, and suppliers. Lead preconstruction efforts for RFQs and RFPs, developing conceptual estimates from incomplete information and refining design-build project scopes. Manage variables to ensure successful bid execution, develop project schedules, and present proposals. Work under deadline pressure to maintain integrity, safety, and quality standards across all project aspects.
Required Qualifications
- Proficient in all aspects of Cost Estimator
- Thorough understanding and proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project, On-Screen Take-Off Program(s)
- Naturally analytical and able to visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions
- A natural mathematician, instinctively comfortable with numbers
- Ability to develop formal written proposals
- Demonstrates excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills both written and verbal
- Knowledge of M. B. Kahn's Safety Program and OSHA guidelines
- Comfortable working under the pressure of a deadline and managing many variables simultaneously
Desired Qualifications
- Subject matter expert as it relates to cost estimating
- Knowledge of current applied techniques in project estimating from conceptual state to final detailed estimating
- Knowledge of building construction, materials, and methods
- Actively involved in local/state/national estimating organizations (when requested)
