Job Summary
Estimator II for utilities/earthwork and site development bids. Responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, performing site visits, conducting quantity takeoffs, developing scopes, evaluating production rates, gathering subcontractor and supplier pricing, and building comprehensive estimates within HeavyBid. Independently manages assigned bids from opportunity review through submission, coordinating with project managers, superintendents, operations leaders, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the preconstruction process. Applies field knowledge, construction means and methods, and risk evaluation to develop pricing strategies that support bid competitiveness and project profitability. Role requires strong technical estimating skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids with limited oversight. Provides a pathway toward senior estimating and project management responsibilities within Veit; participates in handoff and operational planning between preconstruction and field operations. A Day in the Life includes reviewing plans, performing earthwork takeoffs with AGTEK, obtaining quotes from subcontractors, compiling the bid, and delivering proposals within required timeframes. The position may require travel and occasional site visits; office-based with potential field travel; base compensation ranges between $75,000 and $100,000 with a full benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
- 3-5 years bidding and estimating experience or equivalent
- Proficiency with Construction Bidding and Project Management software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with all levels of management and external vendors
- Valid driver’s license; ability to travel ~10% and pass pre-employment drug screen
