Job Summary
Estimator I Sales analyzes blueprints and other documentation to develop a materials list and cost estimate that support bids, confirming construction and labor costs for contract jobs. Uses estimating software (e.g. DQ2000, Estimating and Quote System) to determine linear and square footage for building components, assists sales in providing material availability and substitutions, maintains current pricing data, and computes cost factors for management use in bidding, vendor selection, and cost optimization. Communicates with clients, vendors, and contractors to discuss estimates and resolve issues, aiming to maximize stock material use and improve pricing accuracy. Works in a typical office environment and collaborates across sales, PMs, and customers to deliver accurate estimates and support decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in construction technology from two-year college or technical school preferred
- Must have prior (2-3 years) experience within the building construction industry
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and computer manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively with customers or team members
- Must practice good teamwork
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as linear and square feet, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to apply concepts of carrying out instructions
- Ability to handle problems with several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Experience with Windows and Microsoft Office; training in estimating software preferred
