Job Summary
Analyze blueprints, drawings, and selection sheets to develop accurate material lists and cost estimates for sales bidding and contract confirmation. Receive job requirements from sales representatives or customers, then use estimating software to calculate linear and square footage for wall structures, headers, beams, and floor joists. Resolve blueprint errors or issues with project managers or clients while consulting vendors to formulate bids and select subcontractors. Maintain current pricing data, determine stock material usage, and compute cost factors for management purposes. Assist sales with material availability, substitutions, and new material options.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in construction technology from two-year college or technical school preferred
- Must have prior (2-3 years) experience within the building construction industry
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints and computer manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively with customers or team members
- Must practice good teamwork
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as linear and square feet, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- One to two years related Windows, Microsoft Office experience and/or training
- Must have ability to be trained on estimating software
- Digitized software experience desirable
