Job Summary
Estimator I is a salaried, entry-level position that assists in preparing bid documents and cost estimates for electrical construction projects. The Estimator I has limited discretion to vary from established procedures when assembling construction costs by collecting and studying information to learn how to bid on a project. The Estimator I works under general supervision and provides overall support for several small to medium projects. Responsibilities include reviewing proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate; using established procedures to prepare estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work and entering them into the computer estimating system; soliciting quotes from suppliers and subcontractors; reviewing quotes for completeness in relation to plans and specifications; collaborating with senior estimators to review scope, technical requirements, and pricing; drafting scope letters inclusions/exclusions/clarifications; maintaining files of working documents; and supporting timely completion of client-required documents. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; 0-2 years of estimating experience; basic experience with Accubid estimating; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office; strong communication and organizational skills; ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements.
