Job Summary
Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, and client documentation to prepare accurate structural steel estimates and change order pricing. Collaborate with fabrication, purchasing, field erection, and pre-construction teams to determine build methods, calculate shop labor, material take-offs, and equipment costs including cranes. Type estimates into in-house software and adhere to Schuff estimating guidelines while discussing alternative recommendations with management. Work directly with Sales and Pre-construction to understand project scope, size, and deadlines. Requires five years of structural steel estimating experience, high school diploma with drafting coursework, and proficiency in estimating software.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with structural drawing or drafting course work
- Five years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural steel construction projects
- Customary construction terminology
- Knowledge estimating software packages
- Basic understanding of detailing procedures and building structures
- Basic understanding of modeling concepts
- Great attention to detail
- Excellent written communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Vocation or other secondary education program
- Prior experience in detailing and drafting
