Job Summary

Interpret governing instruments and applicable law to ensure proper account setup, including payments, fee schedules, and tax records. Analyze wills and trust documents for legal, tax, administrative, and investment issues, then coordinate service delivery and communicate procedures with beneficiaries, co-executors, and co-trustees. Handle ongoing day-to-day administration of accounts, proactively manage the account base to minimize operational issues, and oversee work performed by various operational groups. Utilize risk management tools such as overdraft and daily transaction reports to address exceptions and identify potential risks consistent with policies. Resolve tax issues with Tax Officers and counsel while addressing questions raised by beneficiaries and their advisors. Develop relationships with beneficiaries and advisors to carry out fiduciary duties, assist the Estate Officer in maintaining current beneficiary information, and partner with external professionals. Assist in growing the trust and estate business by participating in strategy discussions around structuring, pricing, and closing services for estates, family trusts, and charitable trusts.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Relevant experience in the trust and estates industry
  • Knowledge of trust and estate law, income, transfer, and generation skipping taxation
  • Ability to apply knowledge of trust and estate law, income, transfer, and generation skipping taxation to post-mortem planning exercises and account administration
  • Knowledge of internal procedures involving distributions, account maintenance, account opening/closing, Investment Systems, Annual Reviews and management of overdrafts

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree such as JD or paralegal certificate
  • Paralegal experience in trust and estate practice
  • Experience in the administration and support of trust and estates including general understanding of fiduciary products and concepts, including legal, tax and investments knowledge
  • Client Servicing – client knowledge, client relationships, proactive communication
  • Teamwork/Personal Effectiveness – clear and concise communication, time management, adaptability to delegate, coaching and training
  • Cross Selling and Retention skills
