Job Summary
Lead design, engineering, and studies for protection systems on bulk power systems, including substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables, industrial, and distribution assets. Develop protection philosophies, relay settings, and integrate with SCADA systems while performing electrical model development, short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, and NERC compliance analyses. Lead client projects to meet scope, schedule, and budget, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Support infrequent onsite site visits to collect data and discuss project specifics with clients. Apply expertise in IEEE, ANSI, and NERC PRC standards using software such as AcSELerator Quickset, ETAP, and SKM-PTW, and hardware from SEL, GE, Siemens, and ABB. Utilize extensive knowledge to develop new clients and make strategic decisions within a growing organization partnering with clients to shape global energy systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited)
- 12+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer executing deliverables for Protective Relaying projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one
- Occasional travel
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Desired Qualifications
- Proven history of leading and completing similar projects in a consulting environment
- Commissioning and testing experience
- Strong skills in protecting equipment at high voltages (69kV and higher)
- Experience mentoring others and a willingness to do so
