Job Summary
Lead design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for bulk power equipment, including substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables, industrial, and distribution assets. Develop protection philosophies, relay settings, and integrate with SCADA while conducting short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, and NERC compliance analyses. Lead teams on client projects to meet scope, schedule, and budget, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Support infrequent onsite site visits to collect data and discuss project specifics with clients. Apply expertise in symmetrical component analysis and event analysis using industry standards such as IEEE, ANSI, or NERC PRC. Utilize applicable software including AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista, ASPEN Oneliner, CAPE, SKM-PTW, ETAP, and RSCAD, alongside hardware from SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, Beckwith, and RTDS. Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company funds and adhere to the Code of Conduct. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited)
- 7+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer executing deliverables for Protective Relaying projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Desired Qualifications
- Proven history of completing similar projects in a consulting environment
- Commissioning and testing experience
- Strong skills in protecting equipment at high voltages (69kV and higher)
- Experience mentoring others and a willingness to do so
