Job Summary
Prepare for classroom instructional events and assist teachers in implementing special strategies and interventions based on individual student needs. Provide direct support in academics, social skills, self-care, and vocational tasks while reinforcing material and assisting with remedial work. Monitor student behavior, execute de-escalation techniques, and assist with toileting and mobility as required by the IEP. Collect data, observe performance, and implement curriculum modifications. Supervise students during breaks, lunches, and community trips, and assist with administrative duties like proctoring tests. Set up assistive technology and participate in professional development. Work as a team member with BCBA and RBT staff to support students with disabilities in a diverse, equal opportunity environment.
Required Qualifications
- Passing score on the Para Pro Test or other state approved assessment program
- 48 college credits
- Associate Degree
- Willingness to accept direction and cooperate with all staff
- Physical Requirements- Ability to move in and out of an office, classrooms, buildings, and up and down stairs
- Must possess mobility to work in a classroom
- Strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds
- Strength to lift and/or carry materials/items/persons weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to kneel
- Ability to move easily on and off floor mats
- Ability to use good judgment
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others
- Ability to respect confidential matters
