Job Summary
Administer ESOL curriculum for grades 8-12, delivering instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while developing critical analysis through group discussions on literature and mass media. Design sequential lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into learning experiences that challenge students and utilize available time effectively. Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress, modify methods for individual needs including special education, and maintain accurate records for grading and reporting. Coordinate with Ed Tech partners, parents, and faculty committees to ensure safe, inclusive classrooms and maximize student achievement on standardized tests.
Required Qualifications
- Maine Certification as an ESOL Teacher
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
- Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
- Culturally informed and sensitive teaching methods
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
- Ability to organize and coordinate work
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
- Successful prior teaching experiences in English
