ESL Teacher's Assistant

Job Summary

Provide instructional support to students individually and in small groups under the supervision of the EC teacher. Assist students in completing classroom assignments, activities, and assessments while reinforcing academic concepts and learning strategies. Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and prepare instructional materials and adaptive learning tools. Reinforce positive behavior expectations, promote respectful interactions among students, and assist with de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe learning environment. Support students with mobility, positioning, feeding, toileting, and hygiene needs as required by their IEP or health plan. Monitor student safety during transitions, lunch, recess, and field trips, and communicate student concerns promptly to supervising staff. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, therapists, and families while maintaining accurate records related to student participation and progress.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning, behavioral, and physical needs
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Ability to lift, position, or assist students as needed in accordance with district procedures
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, transfer, or assist students and equipment as required
  • Ability to accompany students throughout the school campus and during school activities
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate degree or completion of coursework related to education, child development, or a related field
  • Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities
  • Experience in an educational or special education setting
  • Understanding of child development and diverse learning needs
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing student needs and classroom environments
  • Basic technology skills, including Google Workspace and educational software
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment
