ESL Teacher Assistant

Job Summary
Support English Language Learners by reinforcing classroom concepts, assisting with digital learning, and adapting instructional materials to match individual proficiency levels. Monitor student behavior, maintain discipline, and ensure safety while encouraging self-esteem and academic language development. Perform clerical duties including grading papers, tracking attendance, filing incident reports, and managing audiovisual equipment. Drive a bus when needed and serve as a substitute teacher during the ESL teacher's absence. Maintain strict confidentiality of student information and participate in professional development. Work a ten-month school year under the direction of the ESL teacher and principal.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or university
- Bus license required within the first year of employment
- Physical ability (able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information
- Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with students
- General knowledge of methods of adapting instruction for students with limited English proficiency
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to read high school texts and explain content to students with limited English proficiency
