Job Summary
ESL Instructor for the Adult Literacy Program at East Side House Settlement in the Mott Haven area. Responsibilities include planning and delivering ALE/GED instruction, developing and delivering digital curricula, conducting intake and assessments, maintaining student records and reporting, providing feedback and individualized instructional plans, participating in interdisciplinary team meetings, and leading trainings to certify participants as required. The role emphasizes high-quality instruction, formative and summative assessments, and collaboration to achieve workforce development goals. Requires a Bachelor’s degree, two years of teaching experience in secondary or adult education, strong relationships with youth and adults, Spanish language skills, and willingness to obtain area-specific certification. Part-time position at 15 hours per week located in Bronx, NY, with minimal travel within the ESH network; COVID-19 vaccination is required by funders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
- Two years teaching experience (Secondary Education or Adult Education)
- Ability to form strong relationships with youth and adult participants (16+) and stakeholders
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
- Flexible, ability to work under pressure, and highly motivated to build successful outcomes
- Strong computer skills and technological experience including Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, etc.) Google Suite (Google Classroom, Docs, and Sheets) and similar programs
- Language skills in Spanish
- COVID-19 Vaccine – as a recipient of Federal, State, and local funds, all staff are expected to be fully vaccinated or able to obtain vaccination before their start date
