Job Summary
Provide direct patient care in the emergency department by performing clinical interventions including splint application, Foley catheter insertion, blood glucose monitoring, vital sign collection, EKGs, and IV insertion under licensed clinical staff direction. Assist with patient transport, maintain a clean environment adhering to infection control standards, and document activities accurately in the EMR system. Respond promptly to emergency situations while utilizing PPE and safety protocols. Collaborate with ancillary services and perform assigned clerical tasks. Requires EMT or LP license, BCLS certification, and 0-1 years of experience.
Required Qualifications
- Technical School completion of Nursing Assistant, EMT, Phlebotomy, or Medical Assistant courses
- 0-1 years of clinical experience
- Ability to remain calm and think clearly during stressful situations
- Working knowledge in emergency management or other medical training
- Knowledge of safety guidelines, sterile techniques and infection prevention procedures
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of patient rights and laws, including but not limited to, HIPAA and EMTALA
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks according to unit's needs
- Ability multi-task and prioritize work
- Strong self-initiative to assist with whatever is needed
- EMT - Emergency Medical Tech
- LP - Licensed Paramedic
- BCLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI)
