Job Summary
Provide direct patient care in the emergency department by performing clinical interventions such as splint application, Foley catheter insertion, blood glucose monitoring, vital sign collection, EKGs, and IV insertion under the direction of licensed clinical staff. Assist with patient transport, maintain a clean and organized environment adhering to infection control standards, and document patient activities accurately in the Electronic Medical Record system. Respond promptly to emergency situations, communicate effectively with patients and the care team, and utilize personal protective equipment to ensure safety. Perform clerical tasks, manage communication systems, and collaborate with ancillary services as needed. Maintain regular attendance and comply with all policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
- Technical School completion of Nursing Assistant, EMT, Phlebotomy, or Medical Assistant courses
- 0-1 years of clinical experience
- EMT - Emergency Medical Tech
- LP - Licensed Paramedic
- BCLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI)
- Ability to remain calm and think clearly during stressful situations
- Working knowledge in emergency management or other medical training
- Knowledge of safety guidelines, sterile techniques and infection prevention procedures
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of patient rights and laws, including but not limited to, HIPAA and EMTALA
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks according to unit's needs
- Ability multi-task and prioritize work
- Strong self-initiative to assist with whatever is needed
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance
- Complies with all policies and standards
