Job Summary
Equity and Inclusion Lead coordinates, supports, and advocates for equity and inclusion practices within the AMS, leading implementation, coordination, and review of the AMS Equity Action Plan and related policies in partnership with external consultants and AMS Council. The role involves conducting research related to equity and inclusion, coordinating campaigns, consultations, and communications, and collaborating with AMS Executives and staff to develop actionable implementation strategies, set measurable metrics, and report progress to AMS leadership. The position emphasizes engagement with marginalized student communities, facilitation of intercultural equity-focused events, policy research and writing, and participation in committees such as the Constituency Equity Caucus. The appointee will work with the AMS President, represent the President when needed, and contribute to presentations and proposals to AMS Council and key stakeholders. Education or experience in equity and inclusion is required, and the role is offered under the Canada Summer Jobs program for a registered student aged 15-30 who is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee status holder.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a registered student at UBC Vancouver or affiliated colleges
- Experience with equity and inclusion initiatives
- Ability to research and write policies and briefing notes
- Ability to plan and facilitate events
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Organizational skills and ability to collaborate across departments
- Experience in community organizing or advocacy for equity-seeking groups
