Job Summary

The Coordinator will apply population health and community development principles to identify and address the root causes for disparities in the care provided at the IWK Health Centre to diverse and underserved populations. This involves consultation with IWK staff and community organizations that represent diverse populations and informing next steps for implementing the diversity and inclusion strategy. The coordinator will interact with distinguished guests and has an active role in leading the events and responsible for planning, logistics, execution, and closing. The events coordinator will work collaboratively with the communications team to ensure cultural events are being honoured, recognized, and celebrated. The coordinator takes the lead on preparing items in advance of events including the development and production of signage of banners, invitations, and marketing materials to assist in the promotion of events.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in a health related discipline OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid NS driver's licence required to travel to offsite IWK locations and to community based meetings
  • 3 years health promotion experience working with diverse and underserved communities
  • Excellent understanding of cultural competence, knowledge and skills working with a variety of diverse communities is required
  • Experience in planning, supporting, and preparing material for events
  • Experience working with underrepresented and underserved communities
  • Experience with or knowledge of Primary Health Care, Population Health, and Community Development approaches required
  • Experience in program development and project management
  • Knowledge of group process, and adult education
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, team members and community groups
  • Experience in addressing issues related to determinants of health
  • Strong facilitation and public speaking skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, relationship building and leadership skills
