Equipment Repair Technician

Job Summary

Diagnose and repair diesel trucks, construction equipment, highway maintenance vehicles, and automotive systems using testing tools and electronic diagnostics. Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel systems while conducting preventive maintenance, inspections, and scheduled servicing. Coordinate with outside vendors for major repairs, execute welding and fabrication, and complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately. Support emergency operations by preparing equipment for storms and response events, perform on-the-road service calls, and safely operate service vehicles and shop tools. Maintain a clean, organized work area and assist with fuel site operations including deliveries and inventory tracking.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working in a shop or mechanical repair environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of automotive, diesel, construction, highway maintenance, or heavy equipment repair and maintenance
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel and gasoline-powered equipment
  • Ability to safely operate trucks, maintenance equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, gauges, schematics, and diagnostic equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while effectively coordinating with supervisors and team members
  • Comfortable performing physically demanding work in both shop and outdoor environments
  • Basic computer skills for completing work orders, maintenance reports, and repair documentation
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Desired Qualifications

  • Vocational or technical training in automotive, diesel, or equipment repair
  • Equivalent hands-on mechanical experience
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Experience using electronic diagnostic and testing equipment
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and DOT Medical Card
  • Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling Certification
  • Virginia State Equipment Inspection License
  • ASE Certifications
  • AFMP Class C Underground Storage Tank Operator Certification and Fire Extinguisher Certification
