Job Summary
Operate heavy equipment including backhoes, grading tractors, jet trucks, and dump trucks for the installation, maintenance, and repair of sewer mains. Manage televising equipment for vaporooter operations while navigating utility conflicts and storm sewer facilities. Respond to after-hour callouts via beeper and complete FEMA Incident Command System certification levels within six months. Maintain accurate records and read system maps and blueprints. This position supports the City of Lake Worth Beach's sanitary sewer system operations.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Possession of valid Florida CDL Class B driver's license
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions in the English language
- Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the operation of the sanitary sewer systems
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and of safety precautions in operating equipment
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to do heavy lifting and carrying and to work occasionally under adverse weather conditions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public
- Ability to accurately read system maps, blueprints, and have thorough knowledge of service area
- Visual acuity to produce and review written reports and records including mathematical calculations, operate a computer terminal, analyze data, and read maps, schematic drawings, and plans
- Ability to perform the physical life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Ability to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of Force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly
- Ability to maneuver through storm sewer water management and drainage facilities, sometimes heavily vegetated
- Ability to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Certification Levels 100, 200, 700 and 800 within the first six months of employment
