Job Summary
Operate heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, loaders, and skid steers to maintain, repair, and inspect stormwater infrastructure such as detention ponds, culverts, and manholes. Lead assigned teams on maintenance and construction projects by monitoring field activities, providing direction, and training employees on safety and operational procedures. Perform sediment removal, vegetation management, and emergency response duties for flooding events and infrastructure failures while adhering to strict safety and environmental regulations. Respond to after-hours callouts and work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, in outdoor municipal environments across varying weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Current Class A or B CDL driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
- Flagger certification and Work Zone Traffic Control certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
- Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks, tractors, or similar equipment
- Three (3) years of experience in stormwater, drainage, utility, construction, public works, excavation, or related infrastructure maintenance activities
- Colorado Collections Class 1 certification or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire
- Colorado Collections Class 2 certification or ability to obtain within twenty four (24) months of hire
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently in a variety of field conditions
- Ability to read plans, maps, utility locates, and construction drawings
- Ability to make field decisions regarding safety, weather, operational priorities, and infrastructure conditions
- Ability to work independently and serve as a lead worker on assigned projects
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts as required
- Advanced knowledge of stormwater infrastructure maintenance, drainage systems, culverts, channels, detention facilities, and erosion control practices
- Knowledge of flood response operations and emergency management principles
- Knowledge of excavation, trench safety, traffic control, and confined space entry procedures
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to walk, stand, or work on uneven terrain for extended periods
- Ability to climb ladders, steps, and equipment
- Adequate visual acuity to read instruments, inspect work areas and monitor traffic and jobsite conditions
- Ability to hear warning signals, verbal instructions, and equipment sounds in noisy environments
- Ability to maintain DOT Medical Certificate
- Must successfully complete all pre-employment screenings and employment eligibility verification
- Candidates must successfully complete a drug test
- Candidates must successfully complete a background and national sex offender search
- Candidates must successfully complete a motor vehicle record search
Desired Qualifications
- Colorado Collections Class 3 certification or ability to obtain within thirty-six (36) months of hire
- Five (5) years of experience in stormwater or drainage system maintenance
- Certified Stormwater Inspector or equivalent certification
- Confined Space Entry certification
- Traffic Control Supervisor certification
- Experience utilizing CityWorks, GIS, ArcGIS, or asset management systems
