Job Summary
Operate heavy and light equipment for installing, maintaining, and repairing water lines, including water mains, valves, hydrants, and meters. Perform inspections, minor maintenance, and repairs while collecting meter data and inputting information into computer systems. Assist with complex maintenance tasks in high-traffic areas and speak with customers to handle service issues and complaints. Stock, clean, and organize the truck and materials, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment. Oversee the crew when the supervisor is unavailable. Work onsite with a valid Class A CDL and DOT Medical Card required.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduation or GED equivalent
- Two years with heavy and light equipment or closely related experience
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Current DOT Medical Card
- Ability to understand and carry out specific oral or written instructions
- Ability to work in unfavorable weather conditions for extended periods
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
- Adaptability to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines
- Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers
- Appropriate customer service skills
- Work onsite
- Presence at work to perform the essential functions of this job
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and capabilities of the equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair of water system components
- Knowledge of potential hazards of the materials and equipment used in performing assigned tasks
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation
- Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in general maintenance, construction, and repair
