Job Summary
Drive and operate light to moderate construction equipment including skip rollers, concrete saws, backhoes, and tractor mowers on routine street maintenance assignments. Repair and patch streets by hand-sweeping surfaces, loading asphalt, and raking materials while participating in crew work orders. Operate tractors and mowers for drainage channel maintenance, inspect roadside areas for weed removal and herbicide application, and manage larvacide and insecticide distribution. Perform regular storm drain maintenance, emergency storm work, and drive various pickup and dump trucks. Work under close supervision performing semi-skilled tasks in the construction and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
Required Qualifications
- Some experience in the operation of light construction equipment and vehicles
- High School Diploma or GED
- Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months, a valid Texas Class B CDL
- Knowledge of street and utility construction materials, tools and equipment
- Knowledge of methods employed in basic laboring and maintenance work
- Knowledge of safety precautions used in hazardous construction maintenance
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks in the construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, gutters, and related public works facilities
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in person and by two-way radio
