Job Summary
Operate 12-yard dump trucks, rubber tire loaders, skid steers, mini excavators, and crack seal machines to maintain streets, alleys, and drainage systems. Transport equipment and materials between job sites while performing pavement patching, grading, and asphalt overlay tasks. Set up traffic control devices, address citizen concerns, and conduct pre-trip/post-trip inspections for assigned vehicles and machinery. Work nights, weekends, and holidays to support inclement weather response and city initiatives. Requires a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement and ability to lift 50 pounds daily.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- 6 months experience
- 1 year of experience operating equipment and machinery (EOII)
- an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipment
- Knowledge of basic safe work practices
- Knowledge in care, operation and maintenance of various power tools and equipment
- Knowledge of maintenance and safety requirements for light to heavy construction equipment
- Knowledge of work zone safety and traffic control requirements
- Knowledge of tactics and techniques in street maintenance operations
- Skill in operating light and moderate construction equipment
- Skill in using an iPad for review and entry of work order data
- Skill in effective oral and written communication
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools
- Ability to exercise some latitude for independent judgment in the absence of supervision
- Ability to work in a team environment and treat people with respect
- Ability to learn and practice new techniques and job skills
- Ability to perform manual labor and to work in adverse weather conditions
- Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License with a Tanker Endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Work Zone Flagger certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license
- Work Zone Flagger certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire (EOII)
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more several times daily
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support inclement weather response, city initiatives or special events
