Job Summary
Operate heavy equipment at a landfill site, including landfill compactor, dozer, excavator, and rock truck, while adhering to health and safety policies and using personal protective equipment. Inspect incoming material to assess contamination levels, communicate findings, and shape landfill cells with daily cover per sequencing plans. Perform daily equipment inspections, maintenance, and lubrication; clean tracks; communicate with co-workers via two-way radio; interact with customers, contract haulers, and staff professionally. Participate in safety meetings, assist with site maintenance and snow removal, and carry out other duties as assigned. Must work in outdoor conditions, comply with regulations, and demonstrate reliability and teamwork.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of a recognized heavy equipment course
- Valid Class 3 driver’s license
- Mechanically inclined with ability to troubleshoot equipment issues
- Ability to obtain Landfill Operations Certification if needed
- Must be able to read, speak, understand and write English
