Equipment Breakdown Specialist _ Claims Consultant

Job Summary

Manage the full claims lifecycle for Equipment Breakdown losses, from First Notice of Loss through investigation, settlement, and payment. Investigate claims and prepare detailed technical reports while appointing and coordinating external experts to support claim investigations. Communicate effectively with insureds, brokers, adjusters, and contractors to facilitate timely resolution, and collaborate with underwriting and engineering teams to deliver risk management solutions. Develop a thorough understanding of policy wordings and coverage while building strong relationships with brokers through technical expertise and site visits. This role supports the Ontario region within Aviva's Engineering Services Department, reporting to the Ontario Regional Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience in commercial property insurance, claims handling, risk engineering, or a related technical field
  • University degree or college diploma in Engineering, Science, Business, or related discipline
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to travel throughout Ontario as required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience working with databases and claims management systems

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional designations such as CIP, P.Eng., or CRM
  • Experience in building maintenance, industrial operations, manufacturing, power generation, mechanical systems, or production facility maintenance
  • Technical knowledge of Equipment Breakdown exposures, boilers and pressure vessels, electrical systems, HVAC systems, or mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of CSA standards, ASME codes, and National Board requirements
  • Ability to obtain National Board Commission and applicable provincial certifications
  • Ability to perform loss control inspections of insured risks and jurisdictional inspections; and preparing survey and assessment reports
